Has anyone tried phone monitoring apps for kids?

My oldest just got his first smartphone since he’s starting middle school soon, and I’m honestly a bit nervous about who he might be talking to online. I’ve messed around with the basic built-in screen time limits, but they seem super easy for a tech-savvy kid to bypass if they really want to. Could somebody recommend a reliable third-party option that lets me keep an eye on his messages and overall usage without being a total nightmare to set up?

I’ve used mSpy for my own kids and it’s been a reliable tool for monitoring their phone activity. It’s easy to set up and gives me peace of mind knowing I can keep an eye on their messages and overall usage. Before trying third-party apps, though, have you explored the built-in parental control features in your phone’s OS, like Screen Time on iOS or Digital Wellbeing on Android?
