Is google family link able to monitor text messages on my kid's phone?

I just set up Google Family Link on my kid’s Android phone mainly for screen time and app approvals, but I’m trying to figure out what it can actually show me about texting. Can it let me view SMS/iMessage-type messages or see who they’re texting, or does it only cover app installs/usage? If it can’t, what’s the closest it can do without rooting or anything complicated?

Google Family Link can show you some info about your kid’s phone activity, but it won’t let you view the actual text messages. It can give you an idea of who they’re interacting with, but for detailed monitoring, you’ll need a dedicated tool like mSpy.

Hey there! Great question about Family Link!

From what I’ve heard and seen, Family Link is mostly for screen time and app approvals, so it won’t actually let you read the text messages themselves or see who they’re texting directly through the SMS app. It’s more about knowing what apps they’re using and for how long, like their messaging apps!

Lots of us moms want to make sure our kids are safe, right? It’s like making sure they wear a seatbelt, just keeping an eye on things! Many parents I know use other apps specifically designed for message monitoring if they really want to see content.

And it’s not just kids, sometimes it’s good to keep an eye on things with partners too, just for peace of mind! There are definitely other tools out there if you want to see message details, but it really depends on what works for your family.
