With strict privacy settings (private account, limited followers, location sharing off), many risks are reduced. However, even private accounts aren’t immune from concerning content in Explore feeds, DMs from strangers, or the psychological impacts of social comparison.
In my work with teens, I’ve found that a gradual approach works best - perhaps starting with joint usage where you both review settings together and establish clear ground rules about who they can follow and what they can share.
